Understand the correct technique for performing the forward roll Demonstrate control when performing rock and roll movements Perform a straight jump from a hurdle step demonstrating a safe landing

LESSON 1 - SET UP/ACTIVITY CIRCUIT

CIRCUIT SETUP: Activity 1: Focus on specific skills. Activity 2: Practice mini sequences. Activity 3: Vault circuit (vault + side station).

GROUP & SPACE: Divide children into equal groups (max 10 per activity). Use enough mats to ensure a safe practice area (~3m x 2m per activity).

Equipment list: Mats, slope, bench, hoops, bean bags

LESSON STRUCTURE

PULSE RAISER (BEGINNING OF LESSON)

1. Have the children spread out around and between the mats 2. Choose some of the following fundamental shapes to practise: Straight, Tuck, Star, Straddle, Pike, Front Support, Back Support, Landing position 3. Practice each of the chosen shapes multiple times in different positions for recognition 4. Begin with a walk . Appoint a leader to lead the warm-up, and the rest follow in a line, weaving around and between mats 5. While walking, call out one of the shapes 6. Prompt children to stop and perform the called shape 7. Transition to other pulse raiser exercises (e.g. side steps, hopping, jumping, monkey walking) 8. Introduce another shape, and children stop to perform it 9. Repeat each shape numerous times, adjusting based on the lesson duration, and include various pulse raiser exercises for engagement Pulse raiser

Forward roll down a slope

Adaptations

1. Stand on slope, show a crouch position at the start of the roll 2. Place hands flat on slope 3. Put chin on chest 4. Bend arms and slightly straighten legs to start the roll 5. Try to stand up with legs together

Decrease difficulty? Forward roll to sitting Increase difficulty? Forward roll without using the slope

Rock and roll to stand with a bench or partner

1. Rock and roll- start sitting in tuck shape on the mats 2. Knees together, rock back 3. Rock forwards and try to stand either on own or reaching forwards towards a bench or partner 4. Keep feet and legs together throughout

Adaptations

Run and hurdle step to jump land in hoop, rebound jump out

1. Start a few steps away from the hoop 2. Small run, leap from one foot on the floor to land feet together in the hoop 3. Immediately rebound into straight jump to land on mats

Increase difficulty? Try various shaped jumps to land

Side station: Rebound jumps in and over hoops and bean bags

1. Start with feet together and arms up 2. Small rebound jumps, moving forwards 3. Continue jumping in and over hoops and beans bags to reach the end
